The Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, appears set to join the growing list of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that his possible switch comes barely 24 hours after Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, officially crossed over to the ruling party.

For weeks, speculation has swirled around Kefas’ next political move. The rumour gained traction on Tuesday when a youth group staged a rally in Jalingo, urging him to join the APC.

Sources told Daily Trust that the governor had set up a stakeholder engagement committee co-chaired by former Senator Dahiru Bako to gauge public opinion before making a final decision.

Confirming the consultations, Bako said, “The governor will not make any political move without hearing from the people and carrying them along. That is why we are meeting with them.”

The APC in Taraba has already declared readiness to welcome the governor, though insiders say his expected defection has triggered unease among some party loyalists eyeing tickets ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to sources, fears are rife that Kefas could move to the APC with PDP lawmakers and appointees, thereby narrowing opportunities for long-standing party members.

However, the PDP state chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, downplayed the rumours, dismissing the Jalingo rally as an APC affair. He declined to comment on the committee reportedly set up by the governor.

Kefas’ reported move comes amid a series of high-profile defections weakening the PDP’s grip across its former strongholds.

Enugu’s Peter Mbah defected to the APC on Tuesday, taking along most political structures in the state. Earlier in the year, Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, and Delta Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, also moved to the ruling party.
