The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the attack on residents of Isokan Local Government, accusing loyalists of Bola Oyebamiji of unleashing violence during what it described as his “ill-fated political gathering.”
In a statement issued by the State Chairman, Sunday Bisi, the PDP said the incident was “a shameful display of irresponsibility by a man who has abandoned his national assignment for needless political brigandage in Osun State.”
Naija News reports that Bisi criticised Oyebamiji, who currently holds a national office, for neglecting his federal duties.
He said, “It is most unfortunate that a man whom President Bola Ahmed Tinubu entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring safety, development, and modernization of Nigeria’s inland waterways has derailed completely. Rather than focusing on his federal duties, he now traverses Osun communities, causing chaos and endangering lives in pursuit of his selfish and delusional ambition.”
According to the PDP, the clash in Apomu, which left several residents hospitalised, was the result of Oyebamiji’s “reckless mobilization of thugs.”
The PDP chairman further said, “A man who cannot manage his own political emotions has no business managing a national agency. His behaviour is not only an affront to the people of Osun but also a stain on the integrity of the Presidency that appointed him.”
The party called on the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to investigate the attack and prosecute those responsible.
“If Bola Oyebamiji himself is found culpable, he must be made to face the full weight of the law,” Bisi declared.
The PDP also warned the opposition APC against attempts to destabilise the state.
“We will not sit idly by and allow the opposition to turn Osun into a battlefield. Our state has moved past the era of bloodletting and violence. Under Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, Osun is enjoying peace, progress, and responsible governance, and no desperate politician will be allowed to truncate that,” the party said.
Bisi urged residents of Isokan and Osun State to remain calm while security agencies investigate the matter.
He added, “Osun belongs to all of us, and we will not permit any individual, no matter how connected, to sow seeds of chaos in our peaceful land. Bola Oyebamiji and his cohorts must be reminded that the era of impunity is long over.”
