The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has dismissed reports that the party is now in a vegetative state.

He stated this during an appearance on Arise Television while reacting to the defection of Governor Peter Mbah to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that Mbah and his cabinet members officially defected from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday.

Speaking on the development, the PDP spokesman said that though the opposition party is battling with challenges, the governor’s exit won’t have any negative impact on the party.

He argued that the strength of the PDP lies in the people, not the governors.

He said, “The PDP is not in coma, it’s not in a vegetative state, yes we have challenges, some of which are external, more damages are the ones within but again, we are working that rope surely towards convention.”

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has stated that he never expected the governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that Governor Mbah officially announced his departure from the PDP on Tuesday.

Reacting to the development while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television, George expressed shock over Mbah’s defection.

He stated that he never saw Governor Mbah’s defection coming despite several interventions by party elders.

“I never saw it at any time. In fact, when Anyanwu was brought back as secretary to complete his assignment, he asked his people not to attend meetings,” he said.

George wished Mbah well, but insisted that the PDP remained strong despite recent defections
