Man nabbed for snatching motorcycle from Anambra couple

Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested a notorious motorcycle robbery suspect, Chiemerie Okeke, for allegedly snatching a motorcycle from a couple in Iruowelle Village, Awka-Etiti, in the Idemili South Local Government Area.

According to reports, the couple was returning home when they were ambushed by Okeke and an accomplice, who overtook them and forcefully seized their motorcycle before fleeing the scene.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect was apprehended by officers attached to the Nnobi Division, working in collaboration with the Awka-Etiti Vigilante Group.

Ikenga disclosed that during the operation, police recovered four Kymco 125 motorcycles, all suspected to have been stolen during previous robberies.

He explained that the breakthrough came after a victim lodged a report on October 11, 2025, stating that he and his wife were attacked around Awka-Etiti town while riding their black Kata Pen motorcycle, which was subsequently stolen by two men.

“Following diligent surveillance and an intelligence-led investigation, operatives traced and arrested the suspects, leading to the recovery of the stolen motorcycles,” Ikenga said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the officers and the local vigilante group for their swift coordination and effective response.

He urged residents to continue sharing timely and credible information with law enforcement agencies to support the ongoing efforts to rid Anambra State of criminals and other social vices.

The suspect and the recovered motorcycles are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
