A fan’s attempt to join Subtronics onstage nearly turned dangerous as the man attempted to disrupt the DJ’s performance amid live pyrotechnics and lasers.

A chaotic incident briefly disrupted Subtronics’ set at GRiZ’s inaugural Seven Stars Music Festival over the weekend when an attendee breached security and stormed onto the stage mid-performance.

Videos circulating on social media show the man approaching the dubstep superstar, whose real name is Jesse Kardon, during his high-energy set at the festival in Arrington, Virginia. The fan appeared to reach over Kardon’s back and toward the DJ equipment before security intervened, dragging him offstage.

Responding to an Instagram post from our friends at Edmtrain, Kardon offered context and compassion.

“A fan with what I believe was only loving intent, for sure was entirely sauced into a completely different dimension, and must of somehow managed to get his way into the booth,” Kardon wrote. “I believe when someone is in that state, it’s far better to handle with love and care than aggression, so rather than fighting or getting aggressive, I hugged him, told him I loved him and he’s going to be okay, but it’s extrmeley important that he gets to safety, away from the pyro and lasers, which can absolutely kill someone or permanently blind them.”

He also revealed that the intoxicated man narrowly avoided striking critical equipment. “Thankfully the stage team was able to wiggle him away from the iron grip he had on the stage monitors,” Kardon continued. “He eventually got pulled away and on the instant replay u can actually see his hand slapped the cdj, missing the platter by literally 1 inch which is kinda crazy.”

No injuries were reported and the performance resumed shortly after. You can view footage of the incident below.
