Glen Powell wants to star in the ‘Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’ movie

Glen Powell is “very interested” in taking on a starring role in the planned Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 movie adaptation.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the debut release from indie game studio Sandfall Interactive and is currently one of the best reviewed games of 2025.

Before the game was even released, it was reported that a live-action adaptation was in the works from Sandfall and Story Kitchen, who are behind Sonic The Hedgehog and Tomb Raider adaptations. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Sandfall Interactive to bring the rich, immersive world of Expedition 33 to the big screen,” said Story Kitchen founders Dmitri M. Johnson & Mike Goldberg in a statement. “The game’s compelling narrative and complex characters provide a solid foundation for a cinematic experience that will resonate with both gamers and moviegoers alike.”

No further details have been shared but it seems that one up-and-coming Hollywood A-lister would love to be involved. Over the weekend, Glen Powell was asked by IGN if he was much of a gamer. “Yeah. Expectation 33 is one that I’ve become a fan of. If there’s an Expedition 33 movie, I’d be very interested,” he replied. When asked if there’s a particular character he’d want to play, Powell suddenly became elusive. “I’m not going to say much more than that.”

During the same event Charlie Cox, who plays Gustave in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, was asked for his opinion on Powell’s possible casting. “Oh, well there goes my part then. Great, he’s going to play Gustave and I’m not,” said Cox. “Is he a gamer? Has he played it?”

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an action role-playing game that sees players lead the members of Expedition 33 on their quest to destroy the Paintress, a god-like figure who regularly wipes people from existence by simply painting a number.

Sandfall recently announced a free update to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to celebrate 5million sales of the game and have also teased a sequel. Live orchestral tour ‘A Painted Symphony’ is also due to kick off this month in France ahead of international dates in 2026.

In other news, a sequel to the surprise hit A Minecraft Movie has been confirmed for 2027.
