The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has urged President Bola Tinubu to refrain from what he described as “defection shopping.”
Naija News reports that on Tuesday, the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, defected to the All Progressives Congress, citing the need to align his state with the federal government’s objectives.
Reacting to the development during an appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday, Ologunagba warned that such a political move would not secure the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ‘s victory in the 2027 general elections.
He stated that shopping for endorsement would not help Tinubu in 2027.
According to him, the ruling party’s fixation on luring opposition figures was a distraction from its poor performance and failure to address Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges.
“I told the president sometime ago to stop this endorsement shopping or defection shopping; that will not help him in 2027.
“The election in 2027 is between the APC and the Nigerian people,” he added.
He further pointed out that Tinubu’s administration was using political defections to divert public attention from its failures.
Ologunagba emphasised that Nigeria’s democracy thrives on pluralism and open expression, urging the President to embrace tolerance and inclusivity in governance.
