England manager Thomas Tuchel has told Marcus Rashford that his talent has “no limits,” but cautioned the Barcelona forward not to look back on his career with regrets.

Marcus Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, has found form again in Spain, scoring three times and providing five assists in ten appearances for Barcelona.

The 27-year-old’s strong start in La Liga has revived his confidence after a difficult spell at Old Trafford and a mixed few seasons in England.

Tuchel, who recalled Rashford to the national team seven months ago after more than a year out, spoke about the player’s growth and what he needs to do to reach the top.

“It’s not a question of talent, it’s a question of whether he can prove the point at club and international level,” Tuchel told journalists on Monday.

“He can be one of the best in the world because the quality I see in training, the finishing with both legs and with the head, is exceptional. He is explosive, fast, and strong in the air, so where are the limits? There are no limits. But the numbers don’t reach the potential, it is as easy as that.”

Tuchel warned that potential alone is not enough, saying Rashford must take full responsibility for his career while he still can. “He is still young enough to make the right decisions in his career, because otherwise, he will be disappointed in ten years at what could have been and what he made of it,” the coach added.

Rashford’s move to Barcelona came after he fell out of favour at Manchester United, where manager Ruben Amorim had questioned his commitment, saying the player was not showing the attitude of someone “giving the maximum every day.”

At Barcelona, however, head coach Hansi Flick has praised Rashford’s work ethic and contribution. The German described him as “unbelievable” and is reportedly open to making the deal permanent for £30 million in 2026.

Tuchel’s comments came as England prepared to face Latvia in Riga on Tuesday, knowing that a win would secure qualification for next year’s World Cup in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

Since taking over from Gareth Southgate in January, Tuchel’s tenure has seen both highs and lows. England were criticised in June for a lacklustre first-half display in a 1-0 win against Andorra, followed by a 3-1 friendly defeat to Senegal. But recent results, a 5-0 win away to Serbia and a 3-0 victory over Wales, have lifted the mood around the team.

“It’s a pleasure to coach, a pleasure to watch at the moment,” Tuchel said. “The effort against the ball against Wales was outstanding, especially in the first half; they couldn’t escape their own half. We are setting the standards and the team are setting the standards. They are hungry, they show their hunger. So we are getting there. There is always room for improvement, but it looks good at the moment.”
