Former New York Young Republican Club president Gavin Wax has been accused of leaking the Young Republicans' Telegram chats to Politico, which were published in an article on October 14, 2025. Thousands of leaked messages showed the members of Young Republicans allegedly sending racist and homophobic slurs and joking about slavery, r*pe, and gas chambers.

The 2,900-page trove of text messages was reportedly exchanged between Young Republican leaders of New York, Vermont, Arizona, and Kansas between January and August 2025. In one of the messages, Peter Giunta, the chairman of the New York State Young Republicans, sent a message to the group that read “everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber” in June.

In a statement to Politico, Guinta alleged that Gavin Wax was responsible for the leak, claiming that the leak was “a highly-coordinated year-long character assassination led by Gavin Wax and the New York City Young Republican Club.”

For context, the New York City Republican Club is a city-based group reportedly in conflict with the state-based New York State Young Republicans. According to his website, Wax had previously served as both the "National Committeeman and Corresponding Secretary for the Association of New York State Young Republican Clubs."

“These logs were sourced by way of extortion and provided to POLITICO by the very same people conspiring against me. What’s most disheartening is that, despite my unwavering support of President Trump since 2016, rouge [sic] members of his administration — including Gavin Wax — have participated in this conspiracy to ruin me publicly simply because I challenged them privately,” Giunta said.

SOURCE: I am told that Gavin Wax- pressured Bartels to share the chat logs, threatening his career if he did not - was eventually successful in this endeavor - also sent the logs to Politico himself, and that NYGOP members have proof- cooperated with Politico over an extended period of time even discussing the framing and focus of the article- provided reporters with contact information and introductions- failed, as Politico did, to get anyone else in the chat to flip- was not protected by the White House when the White House had the opportunity to do soThis goes far beyond cowardice. Wax, it appears, worked extensively with hostile media to destroy the reputations of a number of fellow conservatives.Wax has frequently been accused of tolerating, sometimes introducing, drugs and pr*stitution into NYGOP, as well as exploiting NDAs to blackmail members. Wax once worked for the American Jewish Congress.

For those uninformed, Gavin Wax is the current Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. He is also the chairman of the New York Young Republican Club and the Club's president in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2024.

According to the Politico article, Michael Bartels, whose name appeared in the Telegram chats, also singled out Wax as the person behind the leaks. In a notarized affidavit, Bartels (who is a member of the Trump administration) claimed that Wax "demanded" access to the full chat log in a phone call and allegedly "threatened [his] professional standing" when he "attempted to resist that demand."

“When I attempted to resist that demand, after providing some of the requested information, Wax threatened my professional standing, and raised the possibility of potential legal action related to an alleged breach of a non-disclosure agreement. My position within the New York Young Republican Club was directly threatened,” Bartels claimed in the affidavit.

New York Young Republicans Club President Gavin Wax, who identifies as Jewish, allegedly extorted Mike Bartels to obtain the Telegram messages, which he then leaked to Politico.

Gavin Wax resigned as president of the New York Young Republican Club in April 2025
