If Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t already on your fall moodboard, that’s about to change. For years now, the Oscar winner has worn menswear better than most fellas, effortlessly mixing oversized dress shirts, flowy overcoats, and vintage jeans with enough designer grails to leave most aspiring fashion archivists salivating. Her latest big fit exemplifies that high-low fluency to a tee.
Last week, Lawrence was spotted in New York City sporting two bona fide designer grails: an Hermés Kelly handbag and a silk coat from The Row’s pre-fall 2018 collection. Both of these pieces are enough to turn heads on their own: The coat, with its laissez-faire drape and delicate embroidery, is a covetable fall flex; the Kelly, which Lawrence casually toted unclasped, remains one of the most lusted-after handbags in the world. The 35-year-old backed up those headliners with some billowy black dress trousers and an enormous red scarf. Most would probably finish off such a refined look with equally elegant footwear—but JLaw decided to take a detour.
On her feet, Lawrence laced up a beat-up pair of Salomon XA Pro 3D hiking shoes. While Salomon’s gorpy trail runners have become a staple in fashion circles over the past half-decade, the earthy tones of Lawrence’s rugged kicks still struck a bold contrast to the brighter, fall-ready vibes of her outfit. Much like Timothée Chalamet pairing his own Kelly bag with sweatpants over the weekend, Lawrence’s unexpected swerve was the linchpin that elevated this ensemble from great to masterful.
Best of all: While an Hermés bag and The Row trench are probably well out of your budget, these $150 Salomon sneakers almost certainly are not. Make like Lawrence and pull ‘em on with your swankiest fall duds for maximum effect.
