Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has admitted that the club always feels uneasy whenever star striker Victor Osimhen leaves to represent Nigeria on international duty.

Buruk made the remark ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Benin Republic on Tuesday, expressing concern over the risks the Super Eagles forward faces during national assignments.

The Turkish champions have grown increasingly anxious about Osimhen’s welfare after recent events surrounding the Nigerian team. The striker, who picked up a knock in the qualifier against Rwanda, also escaped a frightening incident when a window cracked on the Super Eagles’ plane following their victory over Lesotho.

“Well, we are starting to get scared when we send Osimhen to the national team, not just because his plane window might break,” Buruk said, as quoted by Habersarikirmizi. “Also, the toughness of the match, the bad pitches, every time we send him off, we are afraid for the players. We are always scared, actually.”

The Galatasaray boss admitted that the latest scare left everyone at the club worried, though he confirmed that the 25-year-old striker was unharmed.

“We finished the match this time, but there was a problem with the plane. We were a little scared when we saw the news, but it’s nothing serious. He will play the second match and return,” Buruk added.

Naija News reports that Victor Osimhen will be in action when the Super Eagles of Nigeria take on the Benin Republic in their must-win last 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Uyo at 5 p.m. tonight.
