The Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on Tuesday, formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement took place at the Enugu State Government House and had in attendance several leaders and stalwarts of the APC at the national and state levels.
Naija News reports that Mbah is the latest major politician and Governor to defect to the APC ahead of the 2027 election.
He was immediately presented with his membership card at the venue.
Meanwhile, following the defection, the “On Your Mandate” song filled the hall in which the formal announcement was made.
Speaking at the event, Governor Mbah said he defected because of the need to align Enugu State with the centre and strengthen the potential of the state.
He noted that leaving PDP was a difficult but necessary decision and urged the people of the state to continue to support him.
“For nearly three decades, PDP and the people of Enugu have walked side by side. Yet leadership sometimes demands principled and difficult decisions.
“There comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny. We have made a decision to leave the PDP and join the APC.
“I have found in President Tinubu not just a leader of our nation, but a partner in purpose. Together we share a conviction that transformation must be bold and disruptive.
“We need an ally who can match our ambition. This is not a detour but a conscious step towards a more compelling future,” Mbah said.
