The Dallas Mavericks and LA Lakers renew their rivalry in Wednesday's 2025 NBA preseason game. It's a highly anticipated clash due to the infamous Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis trade swap that shook the NBA in February last season.

There will be plenty of storylines to follow in this matchup, with several former Lakers, including Max Christie and D'Angelo Russell, lining up alongside Davis. Meanwhile, Doncic's status remains undecided, but it always remains an emotional outing for him against the franchise that gave him his first taste of the NBA.

Dallas enters this game having won two of its three preseason games against the OKC Thunder and Utah Jazz. The Mavericks' only loss came against the Charlotte Hornets. Wednesday's game against the Lakers would be their dress rehearsal for the season. They will look to end the preseason on a high and begin preparations for opening night against the San Antonio Spurs.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have two of their six games left. They are 1-3 in the preseason after suffering another loss against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. Luka Doncic debuted in the preseason and put up 25 points, so that was one of the bright spots for the team.

While they're undecided on Doncic's status, the Lakers will see most of their rotation players in action after Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent and Jaxson Hayes all sat out Tuesday's game.
