Bendel Insurance have confirmed the appointment of Kennedy Boboye as their new technical adviser, ending weeks of speculation about who would take charge of the team.

The former Nigeria international replaces Greg Ikhenoba, who was dismissed two weeks ago following a string of poor results. Boboye, 51, has signed a two-year deal with the Benin-based side and will be officially unveiled on Tuesday.

Before his appointment, Boboye last managed Nigeria National League side Akwa United. His first assignment will be to steady the ship after Insurance’s 1-0 loss to Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Bayelsa United stunned Rivers United 2-1 in a South-South derby played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Monday morning. The match had been postponed from Sunday due to heavy rainfall.

Shuaibu Garba opened the scoring for Bayelsa United before Chinedu Emmanuel doubled the advantage in the 71st minute. Rivers United’s Stephan Manyo pulled one back deep into stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough to avoid their first defeat of the season.

In Jos, Plateau United picked up their third win of the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Barau FC. Coach Oluwasola Adegun described the result as a sign of progress but urged his players to stay focused.

“The first goal gave my players the much-needed confidence in the game,” Adegun said. “It is a work in progress. We will continue to work hard and hopefully become more consistent going forward.”

The Peace Boys now sit 15th on the NPFL table and will face Niger Tornadoes in their next fixture in Minna.
