The Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu, on Tuesday, held a consultative session with chairmen and secretaries of registered political parties at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Naija News understands that the meeting was her first official engagement with political parties since assuming office in an acting capacity.

Recall that Agbemuche-Mbu took over the acting position after former INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, stepped down from office.

According to INEC, the interactive session was part of ongoing preparations for the November 2025 Anambra governorship election.

The Commission explained that the forum was intended to create space for robust discussions on issues related to the conduct of the poll.

“The engagement will enable both the Commission and party leaders to brainstorm over grey areas and ensure seamless preparations for the Anambra governorship poll,” INEC said.

The Commission added that the consultative meeting with political parties would set the tone for similar engagements with security agencies, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders in the coming weeks.

These interactions, INEC noted, are part of efforts to guarantee a credible, transparent, and hitch-free governorship election in Anambra.

Agbamuche-Mbu will act as INEC chair until the National Assembly confirms Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, who was approved as the new chair by the National Council of State last week.
